Growth: The Journey of Self-Discovery and Personal Development

Individual growth is a natural process that takes place throughout a person’s life, much like the growth of a tree from a seedling into a towering oak. Just as a tree must weather storms and adapt to its environment to reach its full potential, so too must we face challenges and embrace change to grow and develop as individuals.

Individual growth can take many forms, from developing new skills and knowledge to working on personal growth areas such as self-confidence, resilience, and emotional intelligence. It can involve exploring new hobbies and interests, and seeking out new experiences that challenge us to grow.

One way in which people grow is through overcoming obstacles and challenges. Just as a tree that is exposed to harsh winds and rain grows stronger and more resilient, so too can people grow and develop through overcoming adversity. This growth can bring a sense of accomplishment and pride, as well as providing the tools and skills necessary to handle future challenges.

Another way in which people grow is through introspection and self-reflection. Just as a tree’s roots must delve deep into the earth to find the nutrients it needs to grow, so too must we look within ourselves to understand our own thoughts, emotions, and motivations. This introspection can lead to a deeper understanding of ourselves and a greater awareness of our strengths and weaknesses, which in turn can help us to grow and develop in meaningful ways.

Ultimately, individual growth is a journey of self-discovery and personal development. It involves embracing change, overcoming challenges, and exploring new experiences. By taking an active role in our own growth and development, we can reach our full potential and lead fulfilling lives.

In conclusion, individual growth is a natural and essential part of life, much like the growth of a tree. By embracing change, overcoming obstacles, and engaging in introspection, we can tap into our own potential and grow as individuals, reaching new heights and experiencing a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

You give too many fucks

Conformity - Conform or die trying to differentiate

You’re a fresh college graduate. You spent years preparing youself to enter the workforce, to find yourself a cushy coporate job with good benefits and a salary which places you comfortably higher than the median pay for workers in the US despite being your first full-time job outside of school. Well a congratulations is in order! You’ve come a long way from the early days of university. No more are the days of watching your bank account slowly deplete to 0 as you struggle to figure out how to stretch your budget to ensure you’ll be able to afford enough food to eat until the next round of student aid dispursments.

Now when you walk into the supermarket you can afford to fill your cart with fresh fruits and all kinds of fancy white people foods… like breads with nuts sauces called aolies. You can (probably) afford your own apartment, no roomates necessary! Finally you can afford to retire the second-hand furniture gifted to you by your parents when you moved into your college housing, as you now have the opportunity and the freedom to decorate and furnish as you please. You take your newly independent ass to IKEA and you walk out with the works. New desk, lamps, some rugs. You purchase some plants and a dope decorative mirror because of course you’ve got taste.

Wow, this is it; you’ve made it. Four years ago you began forging a path for yourself, you had a vision for your life and nothing was going to prevent you from making it a reality. You didn’t have dreams, you had goals and your actions were aligned with success. You struggled through your senior year as you began the job hunt, and you continued to work through the rejection letters and failed interviews because you knew it was only a matter of time and effort before you saw that first offer letter hit your inbox.

Here you are, newly acquired coporate stooge #something-000. Only at this point do you begin to realize what you’ve been chasing. Your new mission in life is to successfully incorporate into the workplace, and to become a good company (wo)man. The time is here to put your fresh mind unaltered by decades of workplace bureaucracy to use, and you better be sure we’re going to suck that brain juice for all it’s worth. Afterall, we’re here for a purpose. You’ve spent the last 4 or so years in pursuit of a major life goal, and well that’s done now so let’s move on. But hey, don’t worry; there’s no time for an identity crisis.

You’ll soon realize that work is your new reality (and maybe ~80% of your identity), and as long as you want to maintain your newly acquired diet built on acai bowls and avacado toasts, this is what your forseeable future looks like. That’s ok, because your new employers are happy to inform you that your work will help change the world and make lives better.

You’re contributing real value to the world and you’re performing the kind of work that will surely fulfill you at the end of the work day. We’ve got rotisserie chickens, and you’ve been tasked with the mission critical role of optimizing sales. If you’re one of the lucky ones you’ll work on something cool like drone deliveries where you’ll really get to help make those chickens fly off the shelves. If that doesn’t get you all hot, flustered, and ready for on-call, I don’t know what will.

Naturally, all of this is contigent on your ability to conform. You’re in this for the long haul,* because let’s be honest, you didn’t come this far to give up at the finish line*. Success in the workplace looks a certain way, and if that doesn’t look like you then you’re in trouble. Come into the fold. Wear the company shirts, embrace the mantras with pride, and you’re well on your way to middle management.

** If there’s one thing corporations really love, it’s diversity. And that’s great! We’ve got resource groups which exist to help you feel represented and accepted regardless of your ethnicity, disability, or sexual orientation. All we ask is that those who desire to succeed in the workplace share our company’s values and goals.

Afterall, a maleable your mind is a valuable resource to coporate, and the quicker you conform to their expectations of a good company man the sooner **
